Isaiah 19 begins like this:

A prophecy against Egypt:

See, the Lord rides on a swift cloud
    and is coming to Egypt.
The idols of Egypt tremble before him,
and the hearts of the Egyptians melt with fear.

Times are very hard in Egypt, and the people are suffering, yet these are exactly the conditions in which God promises He will come. As the ancient Egyptian gods are once again being elevated and worshiped, the people are bowed down under severe economic hardship.

And yet…

There is a new and great interest in spiritual things. Christians are eager to share their faith boldly, and there is a fresh desire to lean into the prophecy of Isaiah 19 and God’s highway through the Middle East.

“There is a huge move of God at work in the sense of revival,” we are told. “Many people are starting to feel they want to reach out and pray, to go share the message of Jesus on the streets with people.”

In response, evangelism and ministry training is being provided on a large scale, as young believers are eager to go out on the streets and share the gospel and minister to their fellow Egyptians.

Moreover, a massive Christian conference is coming up at the beginning of December which has proved so popular they hit capacity weeks ago. Yet more people keep coming from all over the world and agreeing to sleep on the floor.

“On the one side, God is moving in an incredible way, and people are open to Jesus. On the other side, lots of old, ancient gods are being raised up again and worshipped,” our friend said. “They just had a really big event opening the Egyptian Museum.”

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) at Giza has finally opened after some 30 years of construction. Kings, queens and dignitaries from around 60 nations attended the official launch on November 1, 2025, and it was opened to general public three days later on November 4.

“Everybody is on tenterhooks to witness this event, and Egypt’s organisation of it will be up to everybody’s highest expectation,” assured Ashraf al-Azazi, the secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Culture, speaking to The New Arab. He added that there were a large number of dignitaries coming from all parts of the world, heightening international interest.

“Promoted by the Egyptian government as Egypt’s ‘gift to the world’, the GEM celebrates this country’s Pharaonic legacy at a time of high regional and international turmoil,” the New Arab reported.

“Sophisticated preparations for the facility’s opening and the media hype this opening is generating are also seen by some observers as part of the Egyptian government’s efforts to counter narratives of economic decline and project stability and ambition. It tries to project this image through a facility that symbolises Egypt’s modernisation and blends cutting-edge technology with ancient heritage,” the Arab media outlet continued.

But is Egypt’s Pharaonic legacy a good thing? Not really. Still, the Egyptian government are all in, hoping it distracts attention from the hardships of the people.

“Make no mistake it’s a resurrected form of worship for the gods of Egypt,” warns our Egyptian friend. Right as a move of the God of Israel is stirring in the land.

“So you have the one sort of contesting the other. But the big point is, from a few people I’ve spoken to in different groups, they’re all saying people are really opening their hearts to the gospel because the nation is really suffering, the nation is struggling financially, and there’s a real sort of pressure over the people.”

Many prophetic voices are saying that the year 2025 carries unique weight in God’s unfolding purposes on the earth. In early December thousands will gather to pray in Egypt, particularly for Isaiah 19 because people feel this is the time for it to happen.

People are coming from all over Asia and the Far East to take part in this gathering of the nations, seeking God for a fresh release of Egypt’s destiny, and out of her womb, the unveiling of the global bride.

▫️Consider: What does it mean for Egypt to be called ‘My People’ – the only nation other than Israel to be called this? Pray for more Egyptians — both believers and unbelievers — to have this revelation of what it means for them to be “God’s people.”

▫️Egypt’s calling in part is to be a place of refuge, a safe place that welcomes refugees and aliens and cares for them. However, when Egypt loses sight of this it can become a place of slavery very quickly. In recent history many Sudanese refugees have settled there but they have often been treated very poorly, often with deeply seated racist attitudes. Pray that Egypt would move into its calling, first among believers but also as a nation.

▫️Egypt has a fatal weakness – a grand project! Whether pyramids, canals or new capital cities. Even Joseph’s feeding programme which helped the nation through famine ended up with inflicting debt and slavery on the people. These grandiose schemes are easily built on the back of slavery. We need to pray the church does not succumb to this natural/spiritual tendency. Pray for the church to stand strong and to be safe in God’s hands as the ancient gods are venerated in the new GEM project.

▫️Egypt has an ‘inward’ space to occupy and an ‘outward’ ministry to fulfill. There is an altar the Lord is building: a place of worship, sacrifice and intercession for Egypt and the nations. There’s also the pillars at the borders which perhaps indicate the sacrificial service of Egyptians for the Gospel in the nations. Pray for all those involved in Gospel proclamation, and that more and more would come to worship the Lord in Egypt.
