“In that day Israel will be one of three with Egypt and Assyria – a blessing in the midst of the land, whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, “Blessed is Egypt My people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance.” – Isaiah 19:24-25
This past week in Egypt, many gathered with Egyptian leaders from around the Middle East, and with those from the nations for the Watchmen for the Nations, Global Family led by David Demian. This Global Family gathers together to worship, pray and seek God regarding his prophetic promises and redemptive destinies for the nations. Often this includes working with national leaders of churches and ministries to assist them in understanding their redemptive role together in the Kingdom of God. Equipping nations to walk in their biblical identity, destiny and calling have been David’s passion since he began leading Watchmen for the Nations in 1998.
In the past few years, God has started to do something new in the hearts of the Egyptian Church leadership regarding Israel and the Jewish people. The traditional Egyptian or Coptic Church, from which most of the members of the Evangelical Church in Egypt come from, were adherents to replacement theology. Replacement theology is the belief that the Church has replaced Israel as God’s sole covenant people on the earth. As a result, when they read Isaiah 19 they stop with, “Blessed is Egypt, my people…”
With the restoration of the Jewish people back to the ancient homeland and the (re)birth of the State of Israel, Egyptian Christians have been faced with an uncomfortable reality that they have struggled to understand. Even though Israel and Egypt signed a peace treaty in 1977, the relations between the two nations have been anything but warm, and the church has been affected by this attitude. However, in the last few years, with the Arab Spring and the rise and fall of the Muslim Brotherhood from power things under President Adul Al Fatah al-Sisi have begun to change. Just recently he even met with a group of evangelical leaders from the U.S. and Egypt.
The Global Family and Watchmen for the Nations sensed the Lord was directing them to gather in Egypt to meet with leaders, pray and seek the Lord regarding the promise of a Highway from ‘Egypt to Assyria together with Israel a blessing on the earth.’ (Isaiah 19:24) This year, there was a Messianic leader from Israel who shared more about this highway that Isaiah speaks of. Please join us in praying that his words fell on open hearts. Also, pray with us that God will truly cause Egypt, Assyria, and Israel to be a blessing in the earth!
